Congratulations! We are at the halfway point in our goal of memorizing
scripture in 2013. Amazing!!
Knowing we were coming to the halfway point, I took a
moment to look back at the verses I had hidden in my heart. It was like a trip down
memory lane. As I remembered why I had chosen each verse a feeling of thankfulness
welled up inside of me. The Word of the Lord had brought me through six months
of highs and lows. Scripture had walked me through some joys, a few fears, guilt
from sin, the loss of a loved one, and a mission trip to Macedonia…and through
it all had given me hope and a peace that only our heavenly Father can provide.
Being a big-picture person I wanted to put all the verses on
one sheet of paper and see them listed together. As I shared in the post on January 31st, each month I am writing my verses on small cards and keeping them in a leather
holder. It’s a holder I used back in college when I first started memorizing
scripture.
To help me see all the verses in one place I created a sheet to
track them. If you are a big-picture person like me or if you would like a tool to
track your verses you can click a link below to view the sheet. Some of
us are memorizing verses each month and some of us are memorizing a certain
number of verses, so I created two sheets to accommodate both. You are welcome
to use them...just click the link you would like and when the page opens click 'File' then click 'Download As' then click 'Microsoft Word (.docx)'. It will open the document in MS Word and you can save to your computer.
Elaine has another great way of tracking verses. She writes
them on index cards and keeps them bound together. The current one she is
memorizing travels with her wherever she goes…when she is driving it sits on the
dash board, so she can see it (I love that idea). Sometimes she has her kids
quiz her. They give her the reference then she quotes the verse or vice versa.
What a win-win! She’s hiding the word in her heart, and they are learning the
value of scripture memory while having fun quizzing their mom. Love it!
Looking back has encouraged me to press on and keep
hiding God’s word in my heart. I’m truly thankful Elaine sent this challenge
to us back in January…and I’m more than blessed to be doing it in community with
all of you!!!
My next verse is:
I look forward to reading the verse you are memorizing. We would also love to hear how you are tracking your verses. Feel free to share that in your comment.“Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” Galatians 6:9 (NIV)

Psalm 93: 1-2 (NIV)
ReplyDeleteThe LORD reigns, he is robed in majesty;
the LORD is robed in majesty and armed with strength; indeed, the world is established, firm and secure.
Your throne was established long ago; you are from all eternity.
I chose this verse because I like what it says about God's sovereignty…He is our strong and majestic King - reigning and ruling from eternity to eternity. Wow!
Psalm 73:25-26
ReplyDeletewhom have I in heaven but you?
and earth has nothing i desire besides you.
my flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever.
I chose this one to help remind me of the fleetingness of the here and now in contrast of the eternality of God.
My late post for July 1st..
ReplyDelete2 Corinthians 3:18
And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord's glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from The Lord, who is the spirit.
