Here we are already at our next verse for the year! It's hard to believe that January is half way over. Where does the time go? For some of you, this will be your first memory verse for 2013 and we welcome you to this group, and are excited to have you join us!
I was thinking
about what we're tackling for this year….24 verses committed to memory.
That's no small task! For many of you, this is a return to a
discipline you practiced as a young child in Sunday School. For others
this is something you have done in spurts along the way as you've sought to
grow in your faith. Many of us have learned verses as we endured the hard
stuff in life - painful, difficult, challenging circumstances where the only
thing we had to cling to was a verse or two of God's Word.
I can remember
many times repeating Romans 8:1, There is therefore now no condemnation for
those who are in Christ Jesus. Or, here's another one: It was for
freedom that Christ set us free, therefore keep standing firm and do not be
subject again to a yoke of slavery. And of course, this one: "Come
to Me all who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take My
yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart; and you
shall find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is
light."
There are many
others we could all share in light of how God spoke to us through the power of
His Word - burned into our hearts and minds thru the fire of trials and
adversity, that no one and no situation can ever remove. While we
certainly don't sign-up to go thru dark seasons, we do have the assurance that
God's Word really is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. And
aren't we grateful?
Our God is not
silent - His Word is replete with all evidence to the contrary; from speaking "Let
there be light" setting into motion creation as we know it to "Yes,
I am coming quickly," in the final chapter of Revelation where He
promises a time where "we shall see His face…and shall reign with Him
forever and ever." Can you even imagine?
Well, before
we're all delightfully lost in imagining something so wonderful, let me go
ahead and post my next verse:
"You
are My witnesses," declares the Lord, "And My servant whom I have
chosen, in order that you many know and believe Me, and understand that I am
He. Before Me there was no God formed, and there will be none after
Me." Isaiah 43:10 (NASB)
I
chose this verse because God really does want us to know and believe
Him - and to understand that He alone is God - there is no one like
Him and there never will be! We can believe God - His eternal
perfection and power is without equal.
Ladies, it is my
prayer and hope that we will be women of the Word - so let's get going with our
next round of verses! Please don't forget to add your comment below - for
those of you who commented last week, thank you! What a blessing to read
what you are learning and why. I found myself wanting to memorize all of
them! : )
If you aren't
sure how to add a Comment, you can read Teresa’s previous post titled, ‘Blog
Q&A’.
This is an
all-skate, Ladies - we are encouraging and spurring one another on through our
posts and comments, so please take a few moments and let us know what God has
laid upon your heart to commit to memory!
I am ready for verse 2! This verse is a prayer in my heart:
ReplyDelete“Lord, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them.
You will bring justice to the orphans and the oppressed, so mere people can no longer terrify them.” Psalm 10:17-18. (NLT)
I chose this verse because my husband and I are going on a GlobalX trip to Macedonia in May. We both went last year and served at an orphanage of kids age 8-18…kids whom most of the world has forgotten. Their stories of abandonment and abuse are heart breaking. After meeting the precious ones last year we knew we had to go back. This verse will be my prayer for them until I get to hug them in May.
Thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path. Psalm 119:105 (KJV)
ReplyDeleteI picked this verse, one as it was recommended but two because it is so visual for me and brings clarity to why the word is so important to my daily walk. It sheds light on everything. It also reminds me that to be a light to others, I need to have my heart and head in the light...in his word.
Verse 2 coming soon!
My second bible verse is "For I am the Lord, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, "Do not fear, I will help you". Isaiah 41:13
ReplyDeleteI probably don't even have to explain why I picked this verse, huh? Fear ... how it can overtake us when we forget to put out our right hand and grab onto our Almighty Father and trust in Him. Trust in Him....

Good Morning! My next passage is from Isaiah
ReplyDelete"He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint." Isaiah 40:29-31
I chose this passage because I know that I will grow tired and weak during many different seasons of my life. The promise this passage gives us gives me the courage to keep turning to the Lord for his strength. It encourages me to learn to rest in him.
My second verse is:
ReplyDeleteRomans 15:13--May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
I have loved this verse for a while, but haven't committed it to memory yet so I want to do that now! I am so thankful that my hope is in Jesus---He is my rock. I want to be filled with joy and to be so filled with joy & hope that it literally OVERFLOWS out of me into the lives of others.

For the next few weeks, I will be in Isaiah 46:3-5, 9-11. I love this book and these verses affirm his Godness (is that even a word?) and his power!! So excited about all this memory work and can't wait to see and hear what God does through it!! How many of us are there?
ReplyDelete#2
ReplyDeleteIsaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)
"Forget the former things;
Do not dwell on the past.
See, I am doing a new thing!
Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?
I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland."
I am amazed how God allowed me to go through a desert and a wasteland, but He is ready to give new life to all of us and now and has fun, new things for those who look ahead. All we have to do is perceive His purpose.
My second verse is Galatians 5:25-26 "If we live by the Spirit, let's follow the Spirit. Let's not become arrogant, make each other angry, or be jealous of each other." My hearts desire is to daily die to my selfish nature and live being led by the Holy Spirit.
ReplyDeleteI'm a few days late, but here's my next verse:
ReplyDeleteHebrews 4:14-16
"Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are, yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need."
I chose this one this part of January because I needed the comfort of knowing that Jesus knows what I'm going through, that He's fought the same battle (and so much more) and won. Also, that I can bring these things to Him in confidence, knowing that He'll hear me and that He understands. :)
Verse #2
ReplyDelete"Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful."
Joshua 1:8 NIV
Our children just learned this verse and I piggy-backed learning it, loving it's simple instruction and wisdom.
I am very late in posting this, but my primary email for this was my work account. Since that job was eliminated, I have been spending most of my time in "job search" mode but need to focus on the WHO and not the WHAT. So...you will see many verses for me right now related to Faith and Strength... here's my 2nd verse...I will post another for Feb. later today as well.
ReplyDeleteIsaiah 41:10 fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand
I need to "Let Go, and Let God" take control of my job search and the path that he chooses for me in my life. Hoping that work/life balance will win out after 2+ years of long commutes and struggle.
